Generally speaking, is the recreational usage of marijuana safer than that of alcohol, equal to alcohol, or less safe than alcohol?
An explanation of your response is welcome but not required :)

I want to start out saying that I do not do pot, never have, and never plan to. It's just something that -I- am not comfortable doing. However...
ReplyDeleteMarijuana is safer than alcohol. Alcohol DOES harm your body every single time you drink it. It's very easy to become an alcoholic, even if you say you're not one. Because of this, many peoples’ lives are completely ruined due to their drinking...And also their bodies. Drinking has become such a socially accepted thing that you can drink at almost every restaurant, with a lot of them promoting drinking as their main theme. We have very nice, lovely places to eat...with a huge wall full of disgusting chemical concoctions...while kids sit and color on their menus several feet away.
Marijuana is a natural plant. It grows regardless of our input. It does not harm your body, you cannot get addicted, you cannot overdose. In fact there are some who say it HELPS your body, especially with bearing pain. There are also methods of absorbing the plant without smoking it, such as ingesting it or using a vaporizer.
Now, all of this being said...Pot can still be abused just like drinking. If someone healthy just can't go a day without smoking it up, can't go out and get a job, can't take care of their kids, can't show attention to their significant other...Then they have a problem. And sadly, this does happen. I have seen it happen. The only "good" side of pot abuse is that as long as you still have a healthy diet and exercise, it doesn't harm your body like alcohol abuse does.
So overall, I feel marijuana is safer than alcohol, but it can still be abused.
Alcohol is not healthy for you in any amounts more than one serving a day. No ammount of pot is healthy. I think this can answer your question.
ReplyDeleteHowever I'll go further and say you shouldnt be comparing two things that are not good for your body (i'm going to assume that for recreation your going to be drinking larger quanitys of alchohol or smoking a decent amount of pot) and do damage and say which one is safer? thats like saying "whats safer? shooting myself with an AK-47 or a 50 cal? ya you may have a better chance to live with one but eather way your gona at least get hurt.
Be careful, you only have one body and you want it to function well when you are old.
cmill, thank you for your input! From what you said at first, it looks like your position is that marijuana is actually a less safe substance to use recreationally than alcohol.
ReplyDeleteI won't sit here and rebut your opinion, because you know my opinion...I would just like to suggest you do some research on the subject. I feel you will find the evidence enlightening.
In the article linked below, you will see that annually, about 50,000 people die from alcohol poisoning alone. As you know, alcohol poisoning occurs when a person overdoses on alcohol. It is impossible, however, to overdose on marijuana. Smoke too much of it, it'll probably just make you sleepy.
Also, smoking marijuana isn't the only way to consume it. It's also possible to consume it orally, such as in baked goods. One may also use a vaporizer, which heats the herb to a temperature that will release the chemicals needed to create a "high," while also eliminating most if not all carcinogens from the inhaled byproduct.
