I think it is great that Mexico City has taken this giant leap forward. I honestly have always viewed Mexico as a much more conservative, traditional country that would look down on such behavior of its citizens. After seeing the capital of our ally country to the south finally grant the civil rights these humans deserve, I am calling on OUR capital to DO THE SAME! In the late 90's D.C. voted to allow the medical usage of marijuana, and some dumbass had to screw it up and put a block on it, among other things the capital had voted on. Within the last couple weeks that ban has been lifted, thus allowing ill D.C. residents to get the medicine they have the right to. As great as this is, D.C. needs to legalize same-sex marriages and set yet another example for the rest of the country.
WASHINGTON D.C. -- LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE NOW!!!
So here is a two-part question. Do you believe Washington D.C. in particular should legalize gay marriage? Why or why not?
The problem with this is that Christians will raise holy hell because they consider "marriage" to be strictly mand and woman. I do believe there is a special union for gays that allow them to get thier spouses benefits, but they are not technically married.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question I do think that gays shoule be able to marry, and the reason being is becuase marriage isn't just a christian thing. there maybe a christian ceremony, but there is also a jewish one, and different ceremonies all over the world, so why not just have a "gay ceremony" to solve the problem.
I have no problem with gays. The reason I don't want them to marry is not because of any religious views on things, however I don't want to have to pay for benefits (such as health insurance from my company, taxing benefits etc.) for something I don't support.
ReplyDeleteNow if the powers that be or a majority of Americans think that gays should be allowed to marry, I won't fight against it.
I'm sure that everyone can think of something that they do not like and do not want to support.
I might also add that I don't support the majority of men and women who get married for any other reason than they love each other and want to start a family. (gays can't have children, yes they can adopt but this is a different matter)
wingsoffire...not sure what your response actually was. But to have a "gay ceremony" doesn't really solve any problem. It border lines "separate but equal." marriage shouldn't be about gay or not gay, but about two human beings who love each other enough to commit themselves to only each other. i feel the ceremony part can be held any way the couple likes, but as far as the courts are concerned, two men or two women should be able to have the same legal rights to have a legal marriage as any two straight people.
ReplyDeletecmill, you say you don't want gays to marry because you don't support their homosexuality. you say this has nothing to do with your religion, so assuming that is true, you don't want gays to marry because it creeps you out. that's no better than saying blacks and whites shouldn't marry because it creeps you out. it's simply not right. but i do have to give you kudos for saying you won't fight against it should gay marriage become a ballot issue, whether at a federal or state level.
On Wednesday's blog there is a new question of the day, a follow-up to this discussion.
